Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

By rickie wright at 2010-12-21 03:03:59
Cayenne Pepper or Red Pepper has been an important ingredient of Asian dishes for centuries. Unknowingly the eastern or Asian people have been reaping the health benefits of Cayenne Pepper while using it as a flavoring agent. Though naturopathy practitioners are aware of the wonderful qualities of this spice, common people consume it more as a spice than a medicinal herb.

The active component of Cayenne is capsaicin. Do an Internet search on that word alone, and you will be amazed at the results. Clinical studies on Cayenne/capsaicin have found many medicinal benefits including antioxidant activity, cytotoxic action, inhibit some cancer cell growth, alleviate oral mucositis pain, treating psoriasis and pruritus, and other benefits. The great thing about Cayenne is its nutritional value as well as medicinal. This herb is used extensively in all kinds of culinary dishes. Seniors around the globe are beginning to add this herb to many dishes that do not call for it. The addition creates a delight for most palates! When used in combination with other herbs, it acts as a catalyst that increases the effectiveness of other herbs used in the same dishes.

How to Use Cayenne

The best way to get Cayenne in your system is to make a tea out of one teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper and one cup of hot water. Drink such a cup one to 3 times daily and it will definitely have an impact on bad breath and will also come with the side effect of helping your vital organs function properly.

Capsaicin, the secondary metabolite in cayenne pepper that makes peppers (and cayenne) hot to the taste, kills androgen-independent prostate cancer cells within the male body. Aside from its numerous and varied health benefits, cayenne pepper's anticancer properties should be enough to warrant a closer look but when one considers cayenne's heart health benefits not to mention its affects upon every organ in the body, it rightly qualifies as nothing short of miraculous.

Cayenne is high in Vitamins A, C, and B complexes. The rich organic calcium and potassium content is one of the core reasons it's good for the heart. The digestive system benefits from Cayenne just as the heart does. Researchers have found that it can rebuild the tissue in the stomach and the peristaltic action within the intestines. It also assists the body in creating hydrochloric acid which is critical for proper digestive functionality. The reason this is so important is that now we realize the digestive system plays a most valuable role in the core emotional, mental, and physical health. Our brain, glands, muscles, and every all other parts of the body are fed through the digestive system.

Here is a list of various ailments and illnesses that cayenne pepper can help relieve:

1) Heart Disease

2) Ulcers

3) Heart attacks

4) Neuralgia

5) Lumbago

6) Haemorrhage

7) Haemorrhoids

8) Bleeding of the lungs

9) High and low blood pressure

10) Kidney and related problems

There are lots more that this wonderful natural herb can help alleviate as well, it truly is an amazing herb! So when used as part of the lemonade detox diet you get a ton of healthy protection against various ailments that we humans can suffer from.

What about cayenne pepper side effects?

Are there any side effects of cayenne pepper that should be mentioned? As discussed earlier in this article, if taken in large doses, it can induce vomiting, but that should not be a surprise. If you start with a 1/4 of a teaspoon mixed in water adding molasses or honey and/or lemon juice to it, it will certainly be beneficial without causing vomiting. If that is too much, take a smaller dosage. The body is remarkably adaptive and if taken regularly you will gradually be able to take a teaspoon of cayenne pepper without too much trouble. So, start small and you will reap its benefits.
