Baldness In Females-Causes, and Treatment Tips

By rickie wright at 2010-12-28 00:59:50
Female baldness is not as common as male baldness, which is probably why we don't hear as much about it. Women are more self-conscious about baldness when it occurs and tend to suffer a lot more psychologically because of it than men do. Female baldness can usually start after the time of life known as the menopause. In some cases, it can begin earlier. Female baldness is receiving more and more attention. Female baldness may begin at any age and may not have any obvious hereditary association.

Temporary female baldness can be brought about by crash dieting, poor nutrition, physical stress, psychological stress, illnesses with high fever, surgery, chemotherapy drugs, blood pressure drugs, pregnancy, and even some autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata and lupus.

There are many women who deal with female baldness every single day. When women start losing their hair it is because of a hereditary problem that might have been inherited from each of their parents. The cause of female baldness is a chemical called DHT.DHT and 5-alpha reductase (an enzyme) play a part in androgenetic alopecia. When women have a large amount of this enzyme, they produce an excess amount of DHT. DHT is the primary hormone involved in hair loss. Excess production of DHT reduces the levels of estrogen - a hormone that naturally fights the affects of DHT.

The causes of female baldness are many times greater and much more intricate than in their male counterparts. For men about 90 percent of all balding is causes by male pattern baldness whereas in women that number falls to about 25 percent. Certainly a major concern but not the only primary concern. Pattern baldness can also occur in women. It is hereditary which means that it has something to do with the genetic makeup of your family. If female baldness is your problem, check your family's history and you will find out more. It can be from both sides of the family or from just one side.

Another cause of female baldness is a change in the body, like those associated with hormones and stress. Hair loss after pregnancy is not uncommon, but it eventually returns to a healthy state. Stress and illness can also disturb the growth cycle can cause thinning or baldness. Many women love the way their hair looks when they are pregnant. It is shiny and thick and can help you feel better when you are feeling fat and cannot even see your feet. However, after giving birth many women find that hair seems to be falling out in droves. This type of balding is from the hormones trying to level out.

Stress can also cause hair loss. Once you reach the exhaustion phase of a stressful situation, your body will begin to fight back. This could lead to illness, and physical signs of stress, such as; acne, hair loss, and weight loss or gain. Treatments for coping with excessive stress range from counseling to relaxation exercises, herbal to prescription relaxants, and many more.Testosterone, androsteinedione and dihydrotestosterone are present in a woman's body in lesser amounts than in a man's body. Over time however, some of the hair follicles expire while others no longer have the ability to maintain or produce normal and healthy hair growth.

Nutrition plays an important role in the development of hair. The diet has to contain all the essential vitamins and amino acids which are required in hair growth. These vitamins and amino acids are termed essential for the body cannot synthesize them on its own so they can only be derived from the food.Excessive combing, over shampooing, excessive hair dying; all these can cause balding in women. The way you care for your hair plays an important role in keeping your hair full and beautiful. Don't be like the many women that do not take the necessary precautions to ensure that they avoid damaging their own hair through poor care.

In addition the right hair friendly nutrients should be taken and include biotin, vitamin B6, Horsetail Silica and magnesium. These provide the foundations for growing healthy strong hair and help to improve the health of the existing ones as well.
