What is Incubation Period???

By rickie wright at 2010-12-28 01:09:58
What is commonly known as the cold sore incubation period is noted as being the first half of an eight stage cycle that the herpes simplex virus goes through. For most people this incubation period ranges between two to twelve days upon initial infection before a full-fledged outbreak occurs.Immediately after the virus is contracted, there is a genital herpes incubation period, which refers to the time between contracting the virus and the first sign of a symptom. This is typically two to twenty days. For some people, symptoms are never visible, so it is hard to identify when the genital herpes incubation period is over. Make sure family members are made aware of how the insects move from one person to another, as well as their actual incubation period, so that they can ensure they don't pick up any fresh egg-laying adult insects from other sources.

The typical common cold incubation period is from two to five days, but symptoms can appear in as little as ten hours after the virus first enters the nose. The range of the common cold incubation period may be explained by the number of different viruses that can cause common cold symptoms. The incubation period of swine flu is between 1 and 7 days according to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. They say that they think it is most likely 1 to 4 days. During this time, you can still shed the virus and infect other people.

It's that feeling again: dryness at the back of the throat, suddenly you start sneezing and before you know it (Oh No!) you've got another cold. But the question many of us ask is, where and how did we pick up the virus in the first place? Or to put it in more technical language: What is the incubation period of the common cold?

Simple hand washing is the first line of defense. You should be washing your hands vigorously for 20 seconds with an antibiotic soap frequently. Remember, the disease is transmitted when you touch the surface of something that is contaminated and then touch your nose, mouth or eyes. Keep in mind that the virus can live for up to 2 hours on any surface. Once you come down with the symptoms, you will know that you are shedding the virus and should take additional steps to protect the people around you and the public at large. These include always sneezing or coughing into a tissue and then disposing the tissue, washing your hands frequently, and disinfecting surfaces around you.

During the genital herpes incubation period, individuals will likely not be aware they have contracted the virus until they see actual symptoms. Following the incubation period, it is common to feel a tingling, itching, burning sensation and pain in the genital area. This stage is often followed by an outbreak of pimple-like sores that will turn into single or multiple blisters. The incubation period of a virus is the time taken for the virus to show up as a symptom after the initial contact. The HPV virus has a long incubation period that typically ranges from three weeks to eight months. The average incubation period for the HPV virus has been estimated to be three months.

The incubation period of genital warts varies from one person to the next. The difference may be caused by different factors, such as the area infected, such as vagina, penis, anus, thighs, mouth or throat, immune system and overall health of the person infected. Be aware that even if no symptoms of genital warts occur, this does not mean you would not develop the warts.
